The Atlanta Smoke got a superb performance from pitcher Calvin Beck. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Philadelphia 1776. The BC won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Beck was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings allowing 2 runs. With the win, Philadelphia 1776 goes to 2-1.
Mario Castillo, who is rated as the 2nd best prospect by BNN, came through for Philadelphia 1776 with a solo home run in the bottom of the 13th. The right fielder went 2 for 6 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 1 run batted in.
Atlanta manager Scott McMahon said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
