Game was big. So was Javier Desdin.

The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at Evergreen Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 6-2 victory over the Portland Evergreens. Desdin threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 2030.

Alfredo Pizarro made it 3-2 in favor of Northern Virginia when he delivered a 2-run double. It came with one out in the top of the eighth. The Rainbow Mermaids went on to win.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Pizarro told reporters after the game.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Evergreen Park in Portland. The scheduled starters for the game are Luis Peña for the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and George Eisenhauer for the the Portland Evergreens.
