On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids team, the Portland Evergreens had a tough assignment. Ty Struck delivered.

The Evergreens third baseman was unstoppable for the visitors, as he went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 11-10. Struck, 27, was named player of the game for his efforts. The win means Portland now trails - in the best-of- series.

Had Shahid Afridi not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Afridi hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 11-10, in favor of the Evergreens.

"We came out aggressive," said Evergreens manager Imran Baig. "We came out swinging the bats."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atlantica in Hampton. Slated to start are Giovanni Mireles for the Portland Evergreens and Natalino Golaio for the the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids.
