Almost There: Boston On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 6-2 Win
|
A strong performance from pitcher Giovanni Mireles was not enough for the Portland Evergreens, who were stopped by the visiting Boston Patriots in a 6-2 loss in Game of the Play-In today. The Patriots never truly figured out the right-handed Mireles, who threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. Still, the Patriots now hold a - in the best-of- series.
It could have been a different outcome for Boston, had it not been for Bill Chambers, the former first round draft pick . Chambers contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Boston up, 3-2.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Chambers told the Boston Today.
