The Greenville 84s took the first game of the Silver League Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC in a ninth-inning, walk-off, 6-5 win. Northern Lions BC right-hander Carlos Rodríguez was selected player of the game despite the loss, as he went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

Herman Hayes was the walk-off hero for Greenville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the 84s designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Hayes told the Greenville Chronicle. "It's as simple as that."
