Almost There: Boston On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 7-0 Win
|
Facing elimination, the Boston Patriots were looking for a savior. For today, at least, John Kaufman delivered.
At Dunkin Donuts Park, the 34-year old pitched a game for the ages to fend off the Montana Pandas and help the Patriots close their deficit in the Play-In. Kaufman threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the 7-0 Boston win, striking out 10 and allowing 2 hits. The Patriots how trail - in the best-of- series.
Kaufman was in the zone all game. He frustrated Montana hitters while giving the Patriots 9 innings of quality work. Kaufman threw 103 pitches, allowing 2 hits and getting 10 punchouts.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Kaufman said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
