Big Day at the Plate for Velázquez Not Enough for Patriots

Atlanta withstood an impressive performance by Boston designated hitter Jorge Velázquez to defeat the Patriots, 6-5, at Dunkin Donuts Park. Velázquez hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Iván García got the save, his 20th in 24 chances. At 57-51, Atlanta is in 5th place in the Premier League.
The Smoke got a big at-bat from third baseman Yataro Kodo. For the game, Kodo was 1 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 21st home run of the season gave Atlanta a 5-3 lead.
"I told our guys, 'Runs don't score by themselves,'" said Kodo. "You need someone to get on base and someone to drive them in."
