Wilson Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Chicago in Walk-Off Win
|
Chicago played host to Houston at the friendly confines of Hawks Ballpark.
The Chicago Hawks had to overcome a big game from Houston designated hitter John Downing to leave Hawks Ballpark with a 6-5 victory. Downing was 3-4 with 2 home runs and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Chicago reliever Johnny Allen picked up the win to move to 1-0. Drew Cullen suffered the loss.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 14th inning, when Chicago shortstop Curt Wilson, facing Drew Cullen, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Hawks the 6-5 win.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Wilson. "I like it."
Chicago is 22-47 and Houston, with the loss, 25-44.
