Gómez 3-4, Evergreens Move to 45-13
|
The Portland Evergreens stopped the Kingston Township Legion, 4-2, behind an impressive performance from Adrián Gómez. The 24-year old catcher made life miserable for Kingston Township pitching. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Roberto Calderón was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Gene Kirkland earned the save for Portland, his 13th.
Ty Struck was 1 for 3 for Portland. The 27-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jon Briddon. It was his 35th RBI of the season.
"I felt good up there," said Struck. "I saw the ball well."
Portland is now riding a 12-game win streak.
