The New Amsterdam Dutchmen did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Houston 1837 BBC at Houston Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Bobby Swain, who captured player of the game honors. Swain went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 3-3. Glenn Butler recorded the save for New Amsterdam, his 9th of the season.
John Burton, who is tied for 2nd in the 3L in triples with 4, aided the New Amsterdam cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New Amsterdam manager Sal Gaudio.
New Amsterdam occupies 4th place in the Third League at 22-17.
