Big Day at the Plate for Martínez Not Enough for Thundercats
|
Despite a fine performance by first baseman Tomás Martínez, the Richardson City Thundercats suffered a 7-5 loss to the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Martínez slugged 3 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored three times. Natalino Golaio got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1. José Caballero closed the game out for Northern Virginia, earning his 2nd save.
Ed Adams, who is rated as the 14th best prospect by BNN, aided the Northern Virginia cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the designated hitter was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Adams, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
The Rainbow Mermaids raised their record to 4-2.
