Thundercats Win at Northern Virginia, 6-2
|
Richardson City Thundercats starter Juan Valéncia turned in an exceptional performance against the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Atlantica, resulting in a Richardson City win, 6-2. In 7 innings, Valéncia surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The save went to Alec Pittman, his 3rd this season.
Mitch Qualtrough had a big 2-run single for the Thundercats in the top of the fourth inning. With Richardson City trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Ángel Navarro and stroked the single to center. It was his 6th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thundercats ahead, 3-2.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Qualtrough said.
Losses have been rare for the Rainbow Mermaids, who are now 3-1.
