Legion Knock Off Evergreens at Evergreen Park
|
Kingston Township withstood an impressive performance by Portland second baseman Frank Crocker to defeat the Evergreens, 5-3, at Evergreen Park. Crocker was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Kingston Township reliever Yosuke Takahashi picked up the win to move to 1-0. Leroy Picot suffered the loss. John Riggleman earned his 4th save in 4 tries.
Had Dani Trejo not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Trejo hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Legion.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Trejo said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Losses have been few and far between for the Evergreens, who are now 14-6.
