Evergreens Prevail, 5-4, Over Capital District

The Capital District Red Knights got a superb performance from catcher Pedro Álvarez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Portland. The Evergreens won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Álvarez was named the player of the game. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Red Knights, now 6-12, continue their poor start.
Had Shahid Afridi not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Afridi hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Evergreens.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Afridi said.
