Thunder Hawks Pull Back to Even with 4-3 Victory
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks got the win.
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks beat the Glendale Herons, 4-3, at Heron Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Kelly Drijver, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. César Vásquez, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 5-10. Rubén Sánchez got the save, his 1st in 3 chances.
Drijver came through with some timely hitting for Ft. Polk South. With the score 1-0 in the top of the third and two down, Drijver hit a 1-0 fastball for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Thunder Hawks managed to win.
Drijver called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Ft. Polk South now owns a record of 40-40.
