Seawolves Fall Short at Atlantic City
|
Long Island pitcher Jasper Sanders gave the Sonics all they could handle, but in the end, Atlantic City left Sonics Ballpark with a 3-2 win. Sanders allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits over 8 innings. Atlantic City reliever Alfredo Muńóz was credited with the win, to go to 1-3. Vinny Mariani took the loss for Long Island. Atlantic City now has a 3-game win streak.
The Sonics were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when shortstop Senior Pond turned a 1-0 curveball from Vinny Mariani into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Atlantic City a thrilling 3-2 win.
Long Island manager Matt Helsley said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
