The Myrtle Beach Mermen did just enough to secure a 7-3 victory over the Atlantic City Sonics at Tennille Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Les Edwards, who captured player of the game honors. Earning his 4th save for Myrtle Beach was Luis Vega. With the win, Myrtle Beach goes to 41-28, while the Sonics fall to 26-43.

In the bottom of the 5th, Myrtle Beach took the lead on a 2-run single by Maik Palen. At the time, the Mermen were trailing 3-2, but Palen's hit with two outs against Atlantic City pitcher Elroy Thompkins put them in front, 4-3.

"This is a very good team," said Edwards. "We have the chance to do something special."
