Great Day for Phipps in Thunder Hawks Win
|
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks downed the Ottawa Nationals, 7-6, at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. The Thunder Hawks were led by David Phipps, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Jack Ward in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Francisco Jiménez took the loss. Ft. Polk South has now won 3 in a row.
In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Phipps's contribution. The Ft. Polk South designated hitter is a relative newcomer. With two out in the bottom of the seventh, when the Thunder Hawks had runners on 1st and 2nd, Phipps delivered a crucial run-scoring single.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a pretty good chance to win the game," said Phipps.
