Sonics Take Tight Tilt
|
Tennille Grounds was the site of a competitive game between the Myrtle Beach Mermen and Atlantic City Sonics.
Atlantic City pitcher Elroy Thompkins did his part in helping his team beat the Myrtle Beach Mermen, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Thompkins, now 4-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run.
Atlantic City third baseman Cristián Alfonso helped the Sonics go up, 2-0, in the top of the fifth inning. With the game tied, Alfonso hit a 2-run home run off Myrtle Beach pitcher José López.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a pretty good chance to win the game," said Thompkins.
Atlantic City goes to 15-29, Myrtle Beach to 27-17.
