The Phoenix Hotspur Youth did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Chesapeake Continentals at Chesapeake Grounds. Nobody did more than second baseman Carl Tucker, who captured player of the game honors. The winner was Loeck Visser, who threw 104 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 9 hits. Vernon Turner, credited with the save, is now 5 for 8 in save opportunities.
Tucker came through with some timely hitting for Phoenix Hotspur. With the score 1-0 in the top of the second and two down, Tucker hit a 1-2 changeup for a 2-run single. It was his 106th hit of the season -- and a big reason the Youth managed to win.
In postgame comments to the Phoenix Hotspur Daily, Tucker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The slumping Continentals have lost 6 straight.
