Michel Excels, But Miners Win
|
Chesapeake Grounds was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Marquette Miners and the Chesapeake Continentals.
Marquette withstood an impressive performance by Chesapeake first baseman Ludovic Michel to defeat the Continentals, 4-3, at Chesapeake Grounds. Michel went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Rob Silva picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 12-3. Addick Lubbers was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 18 of 19 save opportunities.
Marquette right fielder Harvey Spectre helped the Miners go up, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning. With the game tied, Spectre hit a run-scoring single off Chesapeake pitcher Francisco Sandoval.
"We did a lot of things right," said Spectre.
With the win, Marquette has a record of 39-34. Chesapeake falls to 35-38.
