Blue Sox Shut Out Ghosts
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Irving Blue Sox and the Casper Ghosts, pitcher Dave Turner was excellent. The Irving right-hander was named the player of the game in Irving's 3-0 win. Turner got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 2 hits and walked 6 over 6.1 innings. Turner allowed no earned runs. Juan Vargas recorded the save for Irving, his 2nd of the season.
One significant at-bat for Irving came with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. The hitter, Stan Barnes, hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Blue Sox go on to win.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Barnes said.
Irving, at 3-0, has sizzled in the early going.
