Blue Sox Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
The Casper Ghosts inaugurated their 2026 season with a tough 7-5 loss to the Irving Blue Sox at The Graveyard. Second Baseman Stan Barnes was named player of the game for Irving. Gonzalo Montés picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 4 in 6.1 innings. Juan Vargas was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Barnes came through with some timely hitting for Irving. With the score 1-0 in the top of the first and two down, Barnes hit a 1-0 fastball for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season -- and a big reason the Blue Sox managed to win.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Barnes told the Irving News. "It's as simple as that."
