Martínez Clips Republics for Cycle
"Ladies and gentlemen, Martín Martínez has just hit for the cycle!" That was the call from the PA announcer as Martínez collected the last hit he needed to complete the cycle today against the Republics. He collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored as Phoenix stopped New Amsterdam 13-10 at Dutch Master Park.

Hitting for the cycle is one of the most difficult feats in baseball at any level. The odds are really against a player hitting a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game.

"It's the last thing on my mind really. I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill," Martínez told reporters after the game.

He could be right, but it's not every day that someone hits for the cycle. That's why his name will be placed in the record book.

Martín Martínez grounded out in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Chris Schaefer in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

Martínez is presently batting .247 with 12 home runs, 50 runs scored and 50 RBIs. His OBP is .295.
