Gold Sox Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The New Amsterdam Republics got a superb performance from pitcher Rob Stone. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Chicago. The Gold Sox won the game, 5-2. In spite of the loss, Stone was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Augusto Dávila earned the save for Chicago, his 10th of the year. Even with the win, the Chicago Gold Sox have a dismal 25-51 record.
Melvin Castro's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Ron Madison for a 3-run home run. It put Chicago in front, 5-2.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Castro told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
