Cattlemen Lose to Republics, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the New Amsterdam Republics and the Ft. Worth Cattlemen, pitcher António Hernández was masterful on the mound. The New Amsterdam left-hander was named the player of the game in New Amsterdam's 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Hernández, now 2-3. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Earning his 8th save of the year was Ramón Lara.
Enrique Morales's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant for the Republics. Coming to the plate with a runner on 2nd and New Amsterdam trailing 1-0, the second baseman hit a run-scoring single.
"The beers will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Hernández.
After today's action, New Amsterdam sits at 18-36, while Ft. Worth falls to 21-33.
