Tight Tilt Goes to 1837 BBC, 4-3
|
The Houston 1837 BBC defeated the New Amsterdam Republics, 4-3, in Silver League action at Houston Grounds. Bob Dickerson received player of the game honors. The 7-year veteran went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Tyler Rodríguez got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Picking up the save was Francisco Valdés, his 11th.
Baní, Dominican Republic-born Alberto Torres came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the 1837 BBC trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Houston on top.
"We take it day by day here," said Torres, "and today was a good one for us."
Today's win puts Houston at 17-13, while New Amsterdam falls to 12-18.
