The Houston 1837 BBC got a superb performance from pitcher Gary Bailey. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Grafton. The Middies won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Bailey was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Grafton reliever Domingo Álvarez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Gary Bailey took the loss. Lynwood Matos closed the door for Grafton, picking up his 7th save of the year.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Lawrence Washington was at the plate when Grafton scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Middies to go in front, 4-3.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Houston manager Tyler Johnson.
The Middies improve their record to 12-13 with the win over Houston.
