Republics Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras
|
The New Amsterdam Republics beat the Wizarding Express, 6-3, in 11 innings. New Amsterdam shortstop Hank Wilder merited player of the game honors with his performance. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. New Amsterdam reliever Ramón Lara picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Jackson Haines shouldered the loss. The Wizarding Express, now 10-2, continue their sluggish start.
The most important at-bat came in the top of the 11th inning. With one out, Jackson Haines threw a first pitch fastball to Wilder, which he hit to left for a 3-run home run. It put New Amsterdam in front, 6-3.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Sal Gaudio.
