Matt Sheppard had a good game, but he could not keep the Austin Rangers from falling, 9-7, to the Houston 1837 BBC at Houston Grounds. The Austin third baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once in the loss. Nicholas Beyer, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 4 innings. Francisco Valdés was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
In the bottom of the 6th, second baseman Bob Dickerson gave Houston the lead when he hit a 3-run home run. The 1837 BBC had been trailing 7-6, but the two-out home run off Austin pitcher Katsuyoshi Takuda changed that -- and Houston went on to win.
"I like our mindset right now," said Houston manager Tyler Johnson.
The win pushes Houston to a record of 5-4.
