The Phoenix Hotspur defeated the Chicago Gold Sox, 4-1, in Silver League action at Gold Sox Field, with Phoenix pitcher Pablo De La Torre named player of the game. The winning pitcher was De La Torre, now 2-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Jesús Olvero closed the door for Phoenix, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Neil Lawson didn't waste any time giving his team the lead. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a 2-run home run to put Phoenix on top, 2-0.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Lawson told reporters after the game.
Phoenix, now 6-1, has played well in the early going.
