Rangers Pull Back to Even with 4-3 Victory
|
The Austin Rangers eeked out a 4-3 win versus the Grafton Middies at Field of the Middies. Nobody did more than pitcher John Wilkins, who captured player of the game honors. Wilkins, now 11-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. The 4th-place Rangers improved to 48-48.
The most important at-bat for Austin came in the top of the ninth inning, when pinch hitter Yun Yen stroked a 2-0 fastball to right-center for a solo home run, putting Austin up, 4-3.
"We came out with the short end of the stick," said Grafton skipper Bill Cefaratti.
