Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 The league commissioner announced that two players had been suspended for inappropriate conduct. He told BNN, "What I'm trying to do with these penalties is say, we can't stop you from doing these things, but if you do them, you have to understand you will pay the consequences." Baseball can be an intense game and on-field confrontations happen. However, the league disciplinary policy is to punish, sometimes severely, those who decide to settle things with their fists. When Yoshio Matsuo of the Chicago Hawks and Andy Coker of the New Amsterdam Republics got into a scuffle during a game, both players knew that a suspension would be forthcoming. Sure enough, today it was announced that both players will each receive a 9-game suspension for their actions in a recent game at Hawks Ballpark. This season Matsuo is batting .269 with 46 hits, 8 home runs, 30 RBIs, .350 OBP and has scored 30 runs. In 13 starts this season Coker has gathered 4 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 86.2 innings, allowed 92 hits, struck out 78 and has a 3.53 ERA. |
