Horiuchi Tosses No-Hitter Against Oakland Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 No hitters are rare. But the fans at Fighting Dachshunds Ballpark received a special gift as Shigemasa Horiuchi of the Legion 9 tossed a no-hitter against the Oakland Oaks. He was masterful as he struck out 10 and walked 1 in a 3-0 Kingston Township victory. In all Horiuchi faced only 28 batters. Horiuchi did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Oaks. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way. The Oakland manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings." "I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Horiuchi said to reporters. This season Horiuchi has a 5-4 record with a 1.92 ERA. |
