Bombs away!
Buckhead bombardier John Downing set his sights on the stands and blasted three balls over the fence in a 19-1 win over the Columbus Tidal Waves. It was a powerful performance that should keep the fans at Buckhead Grounds buzzing for days.

He spoke to the writers in the postgame press room and said, "I guess you could say I was a good guesser today, especially on the last one. I was ahead in the count, so I got set for a certain pitch, and got it ... all of it."

For the game the Buckhead left fielder had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 6, and scored 5 runs.

John Downing hit a two-run home run off Ricardo Hernández in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Edgardo Álvarez in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Eric Miller in the 7th and walked in the 8th.

Thus far this season Downing is hitting .332 with 42 home runs, 113 RBIs and 87 runs scored. He has 115 hits in 346 at-bats and has played in 92 games.
