The Irvine Gang Green beat the Beech Mountain Mountaineers, 5-4 at The Ballpark at Irvine, in part due to left fielder Eichiro Yamamoto, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. With the win, Irvine elevates its record to 4-3.
Had José Sánchez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Sánchez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Gang Green.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Irvine manager Luke Murray.
