Great Day for Davidson in Stars Win
|
The exploits of right fielder Derek Davidson, who is tied for 6th in the CL in stolen bases with 13, helped the Springfield Stars defeat the El Dorado Oilers, 8-2. Davidson went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. José López, the winner, improved to 7-1. He held El Dorado to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. Springfield is in first place in the Continental League Central Division with a record of 41-11.
With Springfield trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, the Stars fortunes got a boost when center fielder Calvin Bennett turned a 2-2 changeup from Francisco Ríos into his 9th home run of the season. The hit scored 2 and put Springfield up, 2-1.
"We swung the bats pretty good throughout the lineup," said Springfield skipper León Gonzáles.
