Stars Go Down to Defeat, 5-3
|
The So Cal Bruins stopped the Springfield Stars, 5-3, at Jersey West at Staples Field. The Bruins got a big game from Earl Wiggins, who was 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Alejandro Méndez, the winner, improved to 4-1. He held Springfield to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Marty Burgess got credit for the save for So Cal. It was his 5th of the year.
Wiggins contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one of the critical at-bats that helped So Cal get the win.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said So Cal manager Jorge Rivera. "It's usually not just one thing."
With the win, So Cal goes to 19-20, while the Stars fall to 30-8.
