Irvine right-hander Jung Chwa pitched his team to victory over the Baffin Island Beavers at The Ballpark at Irvine. The final score was 2-1. Chwa, the winner, moves to 2-4. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. Earning his 11th save of the year was Mike Fisher.
Tom Doherty delivered a big hit for the Gang Green. The veteran catcher belted a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The longball put Irvine on top, 2-0. Overall, Doherty was 1-4 with a home run.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Doherty said.
Irvine, now 22-13, holds first place in the National League Western Division.
