Bruins Subdue St. Louis, 3-1

The So Cal Bruins racked up a win at Gateway Stadium, bumping off the St. Louis Browns, 3-1. Juan González, who started for So Cal, pitched effectively for his team. González, now 2-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run. Earning his 4th save of the year was Marty Burgess.
The Bruins beat the Browns in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Earl Wiggins produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against St. Louis pitcher Claudio Martínez, Wiggins gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"I liked his command," said So Cal manager Jorge Rivera. "Juan was throwing strikes."
With the loss, St. Louis is 12-14.
