Mountaineers Clip Oilers in Tight Contest
|
The Beech Mountain Mountaineers powered past the El Dorado Oilers, 8-5, at Park Top. Chris Bates went 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, to lead the charge. The winner was Beech Mountain reliever Paul Ewing, now 1-0. The loser was César López. With the loss, El Dorado is 0-2.
It could have been a different outcome for Beech Mountain, had it not been for Rick Turner, the 23-year old first baseman . Turner contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Beech Mountain up, 5-4.
In postgame comments to the Beech Mountain Observer, Turner said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
