The Kalamazoo Royale with Cheese topped the So Cal Bruins, 9-3, with first baseman Jacob Wright playing a big role. Wright was 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Royale with Cheese in the win. Kalamazoo starter Salvador Castro was credited with the win after throwing 91 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 10-4. After today's action, Kalamazoo sits at 71-61, while So Cal falls to 81-51.
Also making an impact was designated hitter Donovan Bird, who drilled a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third inning for the Royale with Cheese. For the game, Bird went 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Bird told the Kalamazoo Herald. "It's as simple as that."
