Big Day by Mendoza Sparks Bandits Win
|
The San Francisco Bandits knocked off the Austin River Sharks, 9-3, at Greendale Community Field. Juan Mendoza, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason San Francisco won. The left fielder went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Manuel Rodríguez, the winner, improved to 10-11. He held Austin to 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The save was credited to Felipe Reyes, his 5th.
Scott Merritt's at-bat in the top of the first was significant for the Bandits. Coming to the plate with the bases loaded and San Francisco leading 1-0, the center fielder grounded out, driving in 1 run.
"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Merritt said. "That's how it goes."
San Francisco is now 50-80, Austin 40-91.
