Beavers Deal Sheens 6-1 Setback
|
The Baffin Island Beavers got a stellar performance from pitcher Luis Vargas, who handcuffed the St Charles offense en route to a 6-1 win at Crown Royal Stadium. Vargas, the winner, moves to 10-9. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. Picking up the save was Edgardo Guzmán, his 1st.
One important at-bat came with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth inning. Facing St Charles hurler Bill Hines, Tony Morton, the 33 overall pick in the 2020 draft, hit a single. The Beavers went on to win.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Beavers manager Chris Black, "I like our chances."
The Beavers raised their record to 74-55.
