The Panthers had to overcome a fine effort from Niagara Falls pitcher Otis Sykes to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Stone Brewery Stadium. Sykes went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. The winner was Alonso Gallardo in relief. His record improves to 5-5. Otis Sykes took the loss. Vista is second in the Continental League Western Division with a record of 79-50.
One consequential at-bat came in the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on 3rd, the batter, Alfredo Rivera, reached on an error by the second baseman, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-1, Vista, and helped them go on to win.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Vista manager Tim Fulgham.
