The Nashville G-Strings got a magnificent performance from pitcher Bennie Jones, who stifled the Greenville offense en route to a 2-1 G-Strings win at Michigan & Trumbull. The winning pitcher was Jones, now 8-15. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 3. Junior Mateo, credited with the save, is now 15 for 18 in save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 3rd and two out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when designated hitter António Ortega drew a walk. The G-Strings went on to win.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Greenville skipper Shihi Kamida.
The last-place G-Strings raised their record to 42-84.
