Venecia scores 3 runs, Leads Browns to Win
|
The St. Louis Browns got a rain-soaked win over the Boston Rebels at Gateway Stadium.
The St. Louis Browns topped the Boston Rebels, 9-2, with designated hitter António Venecia playing a big role. Venecia was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Browns in the win. St. Louis reliever Scott Walker picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-1. Alfredo Ruíz was collared with the loss.
In the bottom of the sixth, St. Louis center fielder Vicente Valentín had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and no one out, Valentín stroked a 3-run home run to left. It made the score 4-1, St. Louis. For the game, he was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once.
Said losing manager Lúcio Harrell: "Give the Browns credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
