5 Straight Wins for Gang Green
|
In a close game at Connie Mack Stadium, the Irvine Gang Green edged the Pocatello Boccabellas, 4-3. Irvine left fielder Eichiro Yamamoto earned the nod as player of the game. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Masutaro Koyama got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 0. Mike Fisher was credited with the save for Irvine, his 4th of the season.
Had Tyler Wagner not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Wagner hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Gang Green.
"I believe in our guys," said Irvine skipper Luke Murray. "I like the energy they're playing with."
The win brings the Gang Green to 7-3, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
