Stars Prevail, as League Championship Goes to the Wire
|
The Springfield Stars and Seattle Pikes tangled in a hard-fought League Championship that needed to go the distance to determine a winner.
Ultimately it was Springfield, with a 7-4 win at Kekambas Park in the final game, who wrapped up the series 4-3.
"You saw our reaction when we won, I think that says it all," center fielder Norberto Taváres said of the raucous celebration that spilled first onto the field and subsequently into the team's locker room. "Our guys are pretty excited for the BSA Championship."
For the series, Taváres put up an MVP performance, hitting .481 with a .533 on-base percentage, with 0 home runs, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
The Springfield Stars will play against the So Cal Bruins in the next round. So Cal won their series against the Plymouth Rocks 4 games to 0. The BSA Championship schedule will be announced after the League Championship finishes.\n
