Rocks Hammered by Gill, Drop Game 1 to Bruins
|
The So Cal Bruins started the League Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Plymouth Rocks at Play Rocks Field by a score of 4-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Bruins shortstop Eugene Gill was named player of the game after he slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jesús Campos came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Plymouth pitcher Robinson Gonzáles, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting So Cal on top, 4-3.
"This was a good win for us," said Campos. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Game 2 is set to be played on Saturday, October 21st, 2028 at Play Rocks Field. Slated to start are Jeffrey King for the Bruins and José Martínez for the Rocks.
